Inspect the battery compartment o-ring every time you change the battery, and replace it at least once a year regardless of apparent condition. The o-ring is the only barrier between your computer's electronics and water — a small crack, deformation, or piece of grit on the seating surface can allow water to flood the battery compartment and destroy the computer. O-rings degrade with UV exposure, salt water, and repeated compression cycles even if the computer is not used frequently. What is a bungee forearm mount for a dive computer?

A bungee forearm mount attaches a wrist-style dive computer to the forearm above the wrist rather than directly on the wrist. This mounting position keeps the computer display visible without having to rotate your wrist, which is particularly useful when wearing thick neoprene gloves that reduce wrist flexibility. Forearm mounts are popular with drysuit divers, technical divers, and cave divers who need unobstructed wrist movement for equipment handling. The bungee cord used for these mounts is sold by the foot — 4mm bungee is used for lightweight watches and small computers, 5mm bungee provides more support for larger, heavier units.

Can I replace the strap on my dive computer myself?

Yes — most wrist dive computer straps attach via a standard watch-style spring bar or integrated pin system and can be swapped without tools or with a basic spring bar tool. Silicone straps are the best replacement material for diving use — they do not absorb salt or chlorine, dry quickly, and last significantly longer than rubber straps that can degrade and crack with repeated UV and chemical exposure. If you dive a drysuit, check to see if the computer you are purchasing has a longer strap or strap extension included or available for purchase to ensure it fits over your bulky drysuit.

My dive computer display screen is scratched — can I add a screen protector?

Yes — adhesive screen protectors designed for dive computers are available for many popular models. A scratch on the display does not affect function but can make the screen harder to read in certain light conditions underwater. Screen protectors are inexpensive and worth applying when the computer is new rather than after scratches have accumulated.
