What is the difference between the wetsuit brands you carry?

We carry a variety of wetsuit brands because each brand tends to fit slightly different than the others. For example, Akona wetsuits tend to have a longer torso measurement which is great for people who are taller than average. While the Henderson wetsuits are a bit stretchier overall so provide a more custom-like fit for most people. The Aropec brand is a basic, economical neoprene which is good for anyone who wants a wetsuit at a good price. The Oceaner wetsuits are high quality and the 7mm wetsuits have shown to stand up the best to wear and tear in our wetsuit rental fleet.

Is a more expensive wetsuit warmer than a budget wetsuit of the same thickness?

Generally yes — at the same nominal thickness, a higher-quality wetsuit is typically warmer for two reasons. First, premium neoprene has a more consistent and denser cell structure that insulates more effectively and compresses less at depth — a cheap 7mm suit may perform like a 5mm suit at 20 metres because the neoprene compresses significantly under pressure. Second, quality construction means better seam sealing, tighter wrist and ankle cuffs, and a better fit — all of which reduce cold water flushing. A well-fitted, quality 5mm wetsuit can outperform a poorly fitted or budget 7mm suit in practical warmth on a real dive. The investment in a quality wetsuit is particularly relevant for Canadian diving where thermal performance directly affects comfort and safety.
