Frequently asked questions
What size bag do I need for a full scuba kit?
A full scuba kit — BCD, regulator, wetsuit, fins, mask, snorkel, boots, gloves, hood, and accessories — requires a bag of at least 100 litres of internal volume, and often more if the wetsuit is thick or the fins are large. The Cressi Moby 3 roller bag has a large main compartment with two exterior fin pockets designed specifically for this. The Aropec Super Lightweight Backpack and DUI Unlimited Duffel both handle a full kit comfortably. For snorkeling-only travel, a 50 to 70 litre bag is typically sufficient. If you are unsure whether a specific bag will fit your gear, contact us with your fin length and we can confirm before you order.
Can I take my scuba gear on a plane as carry-on?
A full scuba kit — including BCD and wetsuit — will not fit in a standard carry-on bag and must be checked. The exception is the Akona Globetrotter, which is designed to meet most airline carry-on size limits with fins attached to the outside of the bag. Regulators should always be carried on rather than checked — they are expensive, delicate, and difficult to replace if lost or damaged by baggage handlers. Empty scuba tanks can be transported as checked luggage with the valve removed or left fully open, but this is logistically complicated and most travel divers rent tanks at the destination.
Are the Cressi roller bags worth the price compared to a basic duffel?
For anyone who travels frequently for diving — multiple trips per year or longer liveaboard-style trips — a quality roller bag is worth the investment. The Cressi Moby 3 and Piper use robust construction specifically designed for scuba gear transport, with reinforced wheels, heavy-duty handles, and purpose-built fin pockets. A generic checked duffel tends to fail at handles and zippers within a couple of seasons of hard travel use. The more important calculation for frequent travelers is the Cressi Piper's carry-on capability — avoiding checked bag fees on multiple return flights quickly offsets the cost difference between a budget bag and a quality roller.
