Frequently asked questions

What dive lights does Big Blue make and which is best for recreational diving?

Big Blue produces a comprehensive range covering every dive lighting application: compact backup and marker lights, mid-range primary dive lights for recreational night diving, high-output primary lights for cave and wreck use, wide-angle video lights in various output levels, and photo strobes. For recreational night diving, Big Blue offers mid-range primary lights in the 1000 to 1200 lumen range provide excellent performance with rechargeable batteries and solid burn times at a price accessible to recreational divers. For underwater video, the Big Blue VL series wide-angle video lights are our most recommended — genuine wide flood beams at outputs that work effectively for ambient-light supplementation and close-up video at typical recreational shooting distances.

Are Big Blue lights rechargeable and what type of battery do they use?

Most Big Blue dive lights use rechargeable lithium battery packs or standard rechargeable lithium-ion cells, typically charged via USB or a proprietary charging cable. The specific battery type varies by model — check the individual product page for the battery and charging specification of the light you are considering. Some Big Blue lights also include a secondary battery tray that accepts standard disposable batteries (AA or C cells depending on the model), providing a backup power source if the rechargeable pack is depleted. This hybrid configuration is particularly practical for travel diving where reliable charging access may not always be available.

What warranty does Big Blue offer on their dive lights?

Big Blue dive lights are covered by a manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. As an authorized Canadian retailer, our Big Blue products include a warranty that is fully valid when purchased through us. If you experience a warranty issue, contact us first — we work with our distributors to facilitate warranty claims and can advise on the correct process for your specific product and issue. Keep your proof of purchase as warranty claims require it. Flood damage caused by o-ring failure from improper maintenance, neglect, or diving beyond the rated depth is typically not covered under manufacturer warranty — maintain your o-rings as recommended and inspect them before every dive. Speaking from past experience, if you return your light for warranty and the oring is covered in your dog's fur, it won't qualify for warranty coverage!
