Air integration — tank pressure on your wrist
Air-integrated dive computers receive tank pressure wirelessly from a transmitter installed on your regulator first stage, displaying remaining air alongside your depth, time, and no-decompression limits on a single screen. The computer can then calculate your surface air consumption (SAC) rate and factor your remaining gas into your NDL calculations — telling you not just how long the algorithm allows you to stay, but whether your air will actually last that long. Air integration does not replace a backup pressure gauge for most recreational divers, but it adds a meaningful layer of information during the dive.

Is a dive computer the same as a pressure gauge?

No — a pressure gauge shows how much air remains in your tank. A dive computer tracks depth and time to calculate decompression status and no-decompression limits. These are two different pieces of information. An air-integrated dive computer combines both functions — it receives tank pressure wirelessly from a transmitter on your regulator and displays remaining gas alongside depth and decompression data. Without air integration, you need both a dive computer and a separate pressure gauge.

Can I share a dive computer with my dive buddy?

No — a dive computer tracks your individual depth and time profile throughout the dive and uses that history to calculate safe ascent for you specifically. Your buddy's dive profile may be different from yours even on the same dive, and the computer's no-decompression calculations are cumulative across multiple dives. Sharing a computer means one diver has no decompression information at all for part of the dive, which is a safety risk. Every diver should have their own computer.

What should I do with my dive computer between dive seasons?

Store the computer with a fresh or partially charged battery — never store it with a completely dead battery as this can damage rechargeable cells or allow battery compartment corrosion to develop. Rinse and dry thoroughly before storing. Inspect the battery compartment o-ring annually and replace it if it shows any cracking, deformation, or age. Keep the computer in a protective case or pouch away from direct sunlight. Before your first dive of the new season, test all functions in a bucket of water at the surface before entering open water.
