Frequently asked questions
Why does my new mask fog up?
New masks have a factory coating on the inside of the lens that causes fogging. I compare this to spraying your muffin tin with no-stick spray, manufacturers use a mold release the mask parts in the same way. Before first use, scrub the inside of the lens firmly with non-abrasive toothpaste or dish soap, then rinse thoroughly. Apply defog solution before every subsequent dive.
Do I need a prescription mask if I wear glasses?
If you don't wear contacts, then a prescription mask is a great alternative. We offer pre-made optical lenses in standard diopter increments (in stock, installed in minutes) and custom-ground lenses for your exact prescription (more expensive and takes longer). Bifocal readers are also available for reading gauges and dive computers.
What's the difference between a mask and swim goggles?
Swim goggles don't cover the nose, so you cannot breathe through a snorkel or equalize at depth. A diving mask covers both eyes and nose, creating an airspace that allows you to breathe via snorkel or scuba regulator and to equalize as you descend. Always use a mask — not goggles — for snorkeling and scuba diving.
