High Quality Gear -  Divemaster & Instructor tested and approved

Buy scuba regulator bags in Canada — padded bags designed to protect your first stage, second stages, hoses, and gauges or dive computer during transport and storage. A regulator is a life-support device and one of the most expensive items in your dive kit — it deserves dedicated protection rather than being loose in a general gear bag where it can be compressed, bent, or impacted. Available from Akona, Scubapro, and ScubaMax in fully padded and lightweight styles.

What to look for in a regulator bag

Padded vs. lightweight regulator bags
A fully padded regulator bag — such as the Akona Pro Regulator Bag — provides the highest level of protection, with structured padding on all sides to absorb impact and a dedicated padded pocket for the first stage. This is the right choice for checked luggage travel where bags are dropped, stacked, and handled roughly. A lightweight regulator bag — such as the Scubapro Sport Bag 9 — has minimal padding, making it less bulky and lighter for day-trip use when you carry the bag yourself rather than checking it. Or if you're carrying it inside your larger carry-on bag that is providing a suitable layer of protection. It keeps the regulator clean and organized without the bulk of full padding.

What should fit in a regulator bag
A regulator bag needs to accommodate: the first stage, a primary second stage with hose, a backup second stage (octopus) with its longer hose, a gauge console or dive computer, BCD power inflator hose. Hoses should be coiled with generous radius — sharp bends stress the hose material over time and can cause cracking at the bend points. The Akona Pro Regulator Bag includes an interior velcro divider and a padded gauge/computer pocket to keep components separated and prevent the first stage from pressing against the gauges. Look for a bag large enough that hoses can be coiled loosely, not jammed in.

The Akona Laguna — regulator bag and mesh duffel in one
The Akona Laguna is a unique dual-function bag worth highlighting. In its default configuration it is a padded regulator and accessories bag — carry it on the plane with your regulators protected inside. At your destination, unzip the main body and it expands into a full-size mesh duffel large enough to hold your wetsuit, BCD, and accessories for carrying to the dive boat or dive site. It is effectively two bags in one and is one of the most practical solutions for divers who travel frequently. Our Divemasters consider it the best single bag investment for travelling divers who need both regulator protection and a dive site bag without carrying two separate bags.

Storage between dive seasons
A regulator bag is not just for travel — it is also the right way to store your regulator between dive seasons. Storing a regulator loose in a gear bin allows dust to accumulate in the second stage ports, salt residue to crystallize in the hose fittings, and pressure from other gear to stress the hoses. In a dedicated padded bag, the regulator sits protected, hoses are coiled without stress, and the first stage dust cover stays in place. Before storing for the season, rinse thoroughly with fresh water, allow to dry completely, and pack in the bag.

Frequently asked questions

Should I check my regulator bag or carry it on the plane?

Always carry your regulator on the plane rather than checking it. Regulators are expensive precision instruments — baggage handlers stack and drop checked bags in ways that can stress hose fittings, crack gauge housings, and damage second stage components. If a regulator is damaged or lost in checked luggage, replacement parts or a full replacement at a remote dive destination can be difficult or impossible to source quickly. A padded regulator bag fits comfortably in most overhead bins and under-seat spaces. This is one of the few pieces of dive gear advice that is genuinely non-negotiable among experienced traveling divers.

Can a regulator bag also hold a dive computer?

Yes — most quality regulator bags include a dedicated padded pocket or section specifically for a gauge console or wrist dive computer. The Akona Pro Regulator Bag has an interior padded gauge holder and interior velcro dividers that keep the computer separated from the first stage and hoses. If you use a wrist computer rather than a console, it typically fits easily in the side pocket of most regulator bags. Storing the computer in the regulator bag between trips protects the display from scratches and keeps all your primary dive instruments in one organized, padded case.

How do I coil hoses in a regulator bag without damaging them?

Coil hoses in large, gentle loops — never fold them sharply or wrap them tightly around the first stage. The minimum safe bend radius for most regulator hoses is approximately 10 to 15 centimetres. A loop diameter of 20 to 25 centimetres is comfortable for most hose lengths and fits neatly in a standard regulator bag. The backup regulator hose (typically 36 inches) is longer and needs to be coiled in a separate loop rather than wrapped around the primary second stage hose. Hoses that are repeatedly stored in tight bends develop micro-cracks in the outer jacket that eventually lead to failure — usually at the worst possible moment during a dive.
