Frequently asked questions

What camera accessories should I buy when I get my first underwater camera?

The most practical immediate additions to any new underwater camera system are: a spare battery or battery charger (a depleted battery on a liveaboard with limited charging access ends your photography day early), anti-fog inserts for the housing, and a screen protector if it isn't already included with your camera. Beyond those essentials, a wrist lanyard or coil lanyard prevents an accidental drop from becoming a permanent loss, particularly during boat entries. A grip handle or tray makes the camera easier to hold one-handed while managing your buoyancy.

How many spare batteries do I need for a dive trip?

For a week-long liveaboard or resort trip with two to four dives per day, carrying at least two — one in the camera and one charging — with a third if the dives are long or the battery life is modest. On liveaboards where USB charging may be limited to certain hours, having multiple batteries means you always have a charged one available at any time of day regardless of the charging schedule. Always mark your intials on your batteries and chargers with a colored ink, often on trips there are other divers with the same system and it's easy to to mix them up when everyone is charging in the same area.

What is the Sealife Flex-Connect system and what does it include?

The Sealife Flex-Connect system is a modular mounting platform specifically designed for Sealife cameras, housing, and Sea Dragon lights. The components — trays, handles, dual handle grips, arms, clamps, ball adapters, and cold-shoe mounts — all connect using Sealife's proprietary Flex-Connect locking mechanism, which can be assembled and reconfigured without tools. This makes it practical to adjust the system between dives, swap from a single-light to dual-light configuration, or remove the tray entirely for a more compact setup in tight spaces. The system is expandable — start with a handle grip, add a single arm and light, expand to a dual tray and dual lights as your photography develops. All components are compact and travel-friendly. See our Sealife accessories blog for a full guide to what each Flex-Connect piece does.
